Flores is one of these perfect holiday destinations, especially for visitors who don’t need it quite as busy as (the South of) Bali can be!

However, just like Bali, Flores is suitable for divers and non-divers alike.

The diving in Komodo is spectacular, but that’s not all there is to Flores.

From Komodo Island off the West Coast, to Lake Kelimutu or, as it is usually referred to, The Coloured Lakes,  in the East of Flores, there is so much to see. There is some  wonderful diving off Maumere, on the North-East coast of Flores. The reefs have recovered well since the 1992 tsunami, and the muck-diving is very interesting indeed.

Travelling across Flores is an adventure, and just to remind you that you are well and truly in the region which is so aptly  called “the ring of fire”, it is quite common to hear a rumble, or feel a slight tremor from one of the countless active volcanoes on the island.

If you have the time, have a look around, Flores is well worth it!

The east of Flores is also the gateway to the Alor archipelago, and from here you can also get to Lamalera, visiting the traditional whale hunters.
